ritis problems and eventually could not walk anymore. We knew that we wanted to get another boerboel, and we ended up buying 2 puppies. I have one tan boerboel, Shakira who will be 6 months on 25 January and then we have a black boerboel, Bella who will be 4 months on 23 January. They are both beautiful and have the most fantastic natures. This is what we love about the breed, they are gentle giants and make a great addition to our family. The one reason why I wanted to join the group was because my tan boerboel has a skin problem, she has pimple looking bumps on her skin and then when I brush her a lot of scabs come off. I have had her at the vet and they gave us antibiotics and quarterzone which helped for a while but it is has come back. She does not scratch as much as she used to but it still irritates her. I was wondering if anybody else had a similar problem and what the solution would be? Glad to be part of this group, Janice…

my boy Chester had heaps of trouble with kibble and had a lot of skin irritations, i changed him to a raw diet and all the symptoms disappeared. I have had to put him on a dry food recently, now I still feed him 1+kg of raw chicken necks a night and Black Hawk Holistic rice and lamb kibble. I'm not sure where u live but this is made in Australia. it is made with human grade products and has no bi-products at all, it also has no wheat products at all as he cant seem to tolerate it, hes been on it now for 5 weeks without a problem, his stools are fine and so is his skin condition. A local shop does have to order it for me every month and its not cheap but he loves it and it works, good luck, hopefully you will find some thing similar.

f Chester. Hope the raw diet works, it should as all that proccessed food is rubbish, I was buying Royal canine for a while, its so expensive but he was still having problems. I think the meat products they use in dry food are very poor quality. I buy my food from a local pet food shop who process all the meat themselves, no added nasties. Have done some reading on skin problems and they reckon apple vinegar from the health shop mixed with water and sprayed on the affected areas stops a lot of itching, I havent tried that yet as his skin is pretty good now, u can also use a mix of it for yeast ear infections, as yeast doesnt like the vinegar and wont grow, hence to problem, I will try that next time if his ears flare up. I found all the info through google, I gave him a couple of boneo dog biscuits one day and within 2 days his ears were red and sore so I know for sure its that type of food that sets its of. Anyway good luck with your diet, hopefully it should work. Speak to u soon.

since Deuce is having allergies to 'something'!! He's going to the vet this afternoon so hopefully we'll get him fixed up. He doesn't deserve the annoyance of skin allergies!! Could it be the food or just agitation from fleas? We've been bathing him but he's still in a bit of agony. I'm sure the poor guy will be given the cone of shame today. ( movie UP) love the phrase though. Happy day to all Boerboel lovers!!

ds, all to no avail. He's been allergy tested when we lived in PA and it came back completely negative! He's been on prednisone most of his life because everytime I try to wean him off, he starts getting hives that eventually ooze fluid and form scabs. When the scabs come off, his hair comes with it and he looks mangy. Poor guy. One bright spot is that when we moved to NC recently, his paws improved considerably. I'm going to take him to the dermatologists at the vet school here in a few weeks with the hopes that they might be able to find out what he's allergic to. I wouldn't be surprised if they can't, however. I spent thousands at vet dermatologists already, to no avail. Basically, my last vet told me that we'll probably have to keep him on some low dose of prednisone for the rest of his life, and yes, it will cause problems with his liver eventually but if we don't, he'll probably die from a skin infection. :-( He's 125 lbs and seems to do well with a tiny dose of 5 mg per day since we moved to NC, so maybe it won't be too bad for him. ANYHOW, in response to your original question: He's eating Nutro Venison and Rice and I give him scraps of whatever I eat also, since restricting food in the past hasn't seemed to do anything for his allergies.…

The link is from some rottweiler site but the article was done by Ohio State University. They have done some really good work in this area and a board certified canine dermatologist I heard give a lecture recently at Southeast Veterinary Conference talked about using the "Ohio State Protocol" which is a combo of Atopica and Ketoconazole if I remember correctly.
Best of luck to you and your vet!

se it all her life, the supplement needs to be mixed with olive oil and honey, I was trying to keep up with same brand, but I think to try something else to see if she is going to be fine with that. Few bladder infections, and mild ear infection. I just learned from other member who has their puppy that he is not pleased as well and found some staff about them, I'm very upset because not only I'm very trusting person, I love my girl and want to make sure she is well…
a lot of it. In fact the first time we took him in for a visit he told us to watch out for it. It comes and goes. It seems to bother us more than him. On 2 occasions it did get a little out of hand but a course of antibiotics knocked it right out. Apparently they grow out of it. We wash his chin with a hexadene flush often however as he likes to lay in all kinds of muck and filth and it could get infected. Can't get him to lay in a clean pool of water though!…

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting. Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy. First off have you taken her to the vet? Do they know of the situation? Have they taken a urine sample? If your girl has a UTI…"
Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
