Home Of The Rare Breed.
As an expat living at a remote beach side plot in Takoradi, Ghana, I purchased an 8 week old male Boerboel pup just over 6 months ago. The pup grew up living outside and wandering around a large piece of land, friends, kids and other dogs were introduced slowly although other dogs are not that welcomed.
i spend most the day working from home on my patio and therefore have an almost human relationship going on; this breed of dog when not spending time being trained and playing,…

When I try to discipline my 3 month old male puppy, sometimes he fights me, growls, tries to bite me and won't listen. I say no, I hold him down, I pull on his collar. I don't let it go, but neither does he for a long time sometimes. What other techniques should I try?

Hey there,
How come there's almost nobody here to answer our questions? we came here to be guided to a real and good boerboel ownership, raising and training but, nobody here is available to answer us.

Hi everyone from Hollywood, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale. Samson weighs 180lbs, and is in great physical condition, as well as being super friendly and loving to people and other animals (his roommates are two cats and a ten year old pitbull). He comes from Baden Boerboels in South Africa and has some great bloodlines - his father is Marvell Bucho and his mother is Baden Talita (his full pedigree is shown in my photo section). I have not had him scored yet, as I have not had a chance to…

Nero spent the weekend in hospital after he likely ate something that didn't agree with some lymph nodes around his stomach. There was a huge lump in his tummy, he had a high temperature and hit colour was rater off. Initially we thought it was an obstruction, but the x-rays showed nothing and he didn't vomit, so we decided to treat conservatively wait and see.
So of course they put him on this extremely expensive scientifically formulated gastrointestinal stuff, which, when mixed…

Tonka just turned 3 and I would like to breed him, before I get him fixed. He scored an 87.4, by the SABT, when he was only 1.5 years old. I have not been on here in awhile, but, I will post some recent pictures, soon.

A very sad day today...I had to say goodbye to my little Tiny. Last year in december she escaped and I found her almost dead on my yard...she got bitten very bad in her neck.. she survived but got a lumb in her neck which they removed a few times. It seemed to be away ,but it was coming back.now , in two days it had the size of a tennisball. it was blocking her air and she was getting problems with breathing. Although she was still a very happy pup. the doctor said that there was no other…

Today I took Cane to Petco's. We walk in and I notice a mom and son (about 2 years old) at the check out. All of a sudden this little boy comes up to Cane like he is going to hit her, I stopped him and asked where his mother was at. He pointed to the check out line. This little boy continues to try to pet Cane, then he sits on the floor near her. Cane turned around and looked at him, her nose touched his cheek…

After another visit to the dog park, I think I will heed Marco's advice and steer clear. The problem for me wasn't the other dogs though but their owners.
This is realy sad for me as my yard isn't that big and Maxne is so active and really relishes the open space at the park.
I had such a negative experience at the park on our last Snday visit. I wonder if any of you guys have ever experienced this kind of behaviour from other dog owners. They were so rude and telling me to…

So we recently went on our first ever visit to the dog park. What a pleasure, for me and the puppies. At 14 months can Maxine still be called a puppy? Anyway...
Maxine is socialised as she's been to puppy school, but due to some health issues I was hospitalised and couldn't take Jigga to puppy school and he's now too old for that, so I'll start him off in obedience school next month.
I was very worried that my dogs would be aggressive towards other dogs and strangers. They tend…

As a breeder of a considered "dangerous breed" I always thought it best not encourage the introduction of their strength and what they are truly are capable of. Instead they were raised with love, affection and respect. I believed this to be the recipe for success. This maynot be true. I don't know but as a mother of two small children believing in this gave me a sense of comfort.
My children have one of these beautiful pups at their dads house. Not sure how old but what I…

Actually, I found a borzoi in a pound once for a mate. Her name was Nadia, we had to set her leg & she had had probable abuse in the past. She was a really beautiful black and white dog. One day Nadia and Missy, my afghan, got treated to soup bones. I left a large area between their treets, as I was used to doing, but the Borzoi grabbed the other dog's bone and a fight was on the immediate horizon. At that point I had to step in --and it looked like I was going to be turned on, as…

I have been a dog breeder, trainer, rescuer, and of course owner. Dogs have played such a large role in my life, I feel that part of my identity is co-owned with my dog pack. In fact my uncle, Red Horse Thunder, a lokata medicine man gave me the name Sunka Canku (shunka Chanku) which is Road Dog in English. All this is said to give a little perspective. I am an admirer of the working dogs. I also feel that the breed Boerboel, which is absolutely a working dog should have a lean hungry look.…
