Thanks guys, I will try right after the holidays. I hope it is as good as I have been reading. thanks again Lee
As for what to feed any dog, there are 2 basic metrics you want to follow. First is the how much: 2-3% of your dog's ideal weight a day (4-6% of their weight when they are still in their growth years). Second is the what: 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organs. That is basically the same ratio what a wolf would consume if they were to kill a wild animal. As to the why, we have an extensive list of health articles and links in the health section of our website, and we would encourage you do the research until you feel comfortable with a switch. When we first began to feed raw, we did mix in a vegetable "puree" with their meals, but we have long-since stopped doing so. There are still raw feeders who swear by the need for them, but we did not see a real difference w/ or w/out the veggies. We did see a BIG difference in their overall health (brighter, softer coats, better skin, cleaner teeth, better breath, etc.) when we switched. We also saw that their stools were MUCH smaller since they were utilizing a much larger percentage of the food they were eating.
Lee,
We can appreciate your skepticism--we were the same way when it came to feeding our own boys. However, the more we researched the health issues of our own breed (Bernese Mountain Dogs) and saw what a high rate of cancer they seemed to have, we were concerned about making sure they got as pure and as species-appropriate diet as possible. Dogs are direct descendants of wolves, and though they are more "socialized" and diverse than wolves, you can't change basic genetics. We strive to provide as close to a wild diet as possible which is why we offer whole-animal grinds as well as raw chunks of a wide variety of animals (ducks, goats, muskrat, etc.).
Hi guys, glad to see you here. I have always been a little skeptical on pure raw feeding. what do you guys offer as base meats, and do you include vegies. Guess I need a menu. What should a 145 lb. male be fed in raw? also a 140 lb.female? Thanks Lee
Thanks again, Marco. We will get to work on the weekly feeding guide!
Thanks for the start of this group! I know we have a lot of people here interested in raw feeding.
