Would love to see weekly schedule from others here.  It may help us all to come up with better ways to feed raw.  I found this on the net and wanted to post.  Weekly Sample  Please post your feeding scedule if you have one or give some suggestions.  Maybe we can all work together and come up with "Top Boerboel Diet".  Look forward to feeding my dog raw soon.

Does anyone have a raw diet feeding schedule?  Would be helpful to share with others here if so, thanks.

I think as far as feeding schedules are concerned all dogs are different. I will post mine as an example.

Each dog gets approx the following twice daily ( I feed twice daily and sometimes more depending on the age and situation of the dog in question)

Approximate contents of bowl.... Two to three chicken carcusses... six chicken necks...one free range egg... approx  two minced chicken carcusses...twice that mince volume in Veggies... Veggies constist of greens, root veggies ( no Potatoes only Sweet potaotes) beetroot and in the summer plenty of herbs and goodies found in the hedgrows... Fruit and basically anything that can be put in an electric blender and mushed...Then we add kelp tablets ( although I looking to hit the beach for fresh this year! folic acid, brewers yeast, omega oils, garlic oils, arggghhhh cant think!...ester C, and I think that's it! Dogs only get the vits once a day sometimes not every day if I forget lol! approx three times a week soaked porridge oats ( WHY? because they add wieght to a barf dog IMO and also clean of their bowels!) sometimes beef and lamb mince... I tend to not give pork though.

So thats the bowl situation... I give extra bones... lamb and beef mainly and fish when I can find it... rabbit and pheasant and any other game I can get the dogs to catch lol! And thats about it I think... pups get necks and carcusses from approx four weeks old and veggies too... I do add biscuits to their diets because I feel they need to understand and except it incase an owner doesn't wish to follow on with the program... All the pups in our "pups we have bred" album have been reared on Barf and happliy are still on the program with their new families.

We there it is... Hope that's what you meant by a schedule Marco lol!

Hey thanks Karen, I understand it will be different for all but was looking for examples from others.  Kind of a guidline to look at or discuss with others here.  A way to find out more info on why some might do certain things and others may not.  Thanks so much for your reply, I just started feeding raw yesterday.  If anyone else has something to add please do.  It would be nice to have a discussion on this.

Hi there,

As most of you know we feed solely raw and have for quite the number of years now... however don't get me wrong... we are even still learning of new ways to do things or NOT to do things;

Our daily meals consist of a variety of proteins... here is a couple of days in the life of a Proudfoot dog!

feeding twice a day on a varying schedule

1. pork necks for one feeding followed by beef heart or tongue or cheek meat along with some ground chicken for the second feeding

2. beef brisket and beef heart for 1st meal followed by a salmon/chicken dinner mix ( consisting of entire salmon and ground chicken frames with meat and fat )

3. tripe mix ( consisting of tripe/trachea/heart/lung/liver/kidney ) along with ground chicken for 1st meal followed by pizzle sticks and beef brisket

this does somewhat vary if we are able to get in deer/bear/or moose again depending upon time of year.. but.. the only time we add veggies or fruit is if it is used for training ( very rarely )  or if something is just sort of " off " within the family fridge.. other than that.. no supplements and no veggies needed....

Hope this helps

Marcella

I'm really trying to make the total switch to raw. As of now we are giving ground chicken with liver/heart/giblets in the morning. I've been getting the chicken from the grocery store. I have connected with a meat processor that sells raw dog food but unless I want to pay $4 a pound for pre-ground, pre-formed patties my options are mostly limited to beef cartiledge which includes some small beef bones, lamb shanks, goat shanks.....I have give a few of the cartiledge pieces to my boy but I get a little nervous because it has the small bones in it. Is it ok? Are the shanks a soft enough bone for them to digest (they are cut in about 6 inch lengths) I also wonder what would happen if they just swallowed it whole?  I have given rabbit heads as well, but they really don't like them much! Johari's absolute favorite thing is stomach grass...she'll eat anything I put it in. LOL Would appreciate any helpful hints.....all these kibble recalls are just making me nervous! Thanks

hi  while im getting into raw can i use kibble intermittently  like raw   for breakfast  and kibble at night

Yes. I did it for a whole year before I completely switched over. I will still use kibble a little here and there if someone is being a picky eater or I forget to take their meal out of the freezer (getting better at this, but I still forget once in awhile!)

HI,

I'm feeding my pups 6, 12, 18 mths raw + rice + veg/fruit. When calculating how much should I feed them? Do I add rice on top of the amount suggested for their weight or substitute? I think I've been underfeeding them meat cos I read somewhere that if they grow too fast they would be prone to hip dysplasia. My little runt was putting on 2kg a week so I cut back but now that he's almost 12 mths and weighs 50kg, should I be beefing him up? They seem constantly hungry.

Found this calculator online

Hi,

Query: you give them raw eggs? How much per week?

Thank you very much, Daniel.

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
