Home Of The Rare Breed.
The discussion of remote collars will come, and go often in our chat room. Some really like them while others want nothing to do with them. My thoughts are with any tool, with proper use, and training it can be effective. It would be nice to hear from those who have had some experience using remote collars. Please take the time to give your thoughts, and share with other.

This is the first time I've talked about this in discussion... I know that some people think very negatively of the collar and I don't want to be harassed for using it, so I don't usually say much about it. I've talked on chat about the collar for the most part. We use the sport dog collar that is used through Sit Means Sit (SMS).
Glad to see this discussion is getting some attention. I also strongly recommend knowing how to use such training tool before you attempt any training with it. Heres a great place to start Remote Collar Training Articles. Daniel Audet who is a member here runs the site called Balanced trainers. A great resource for training. We also have a sections on our site for training that can be found below.
Heather, you should join the new training forum http://www.balancedtrainers.com/forum/ It was started by Daniel Audet who is a member of this forum. There is lots of discussion on there about the collars with no one judging and you can ask the trainers questions.

Jon, I use the Dogtra 1902NCP based on my trainers recommendation.. It is a 2 dog unit though, because I use it on one of my Saints as well when we go hiking. It works great for recalls on trails and is waterproof..
The sport dog that we use is also able to be set for two different receivers, and is also waterproof. She has gone swimming in the lake and we've never had problems with water as long as the plugs are put in... Just do your research and find the one that is best for you, your dog and your life style...
