Lisa,

I'm cooking both in a frying pan with olive oil.  I was mixing foods as I read that variety was good for them as no manufacturer really supplies all they need- she says that too, so I decided to use three highly rated foods for one meal a day.  I haven't read all she says yet, and that other resource you mentioned the mastiff site i had trouble registering last night, I plan to see what they have to say.  The raw scares me although I have fed all of my dogs raw at some time in their lives- my brother, a doctor, and my vet are both against it- their position is even if the dog is not susceptible to a contaminant or bacteria in the raw food- it could be transferred from the dog to one of us and we're not immune.  What are you doing now?

Well, I would love to feed raw but I feel as you do about us being contaminated and also I don't have an appropriate place to do that. If I lived in a warm climate I might consider feeding outside but where I live and the seasons I just feel it won't work for us. I am also afraid of screwing it up and he doesn't get what he needs nutritionally. My vet says that no matter what kind of kibble you choose that it doesn't really matter and that dogs that eat the cheap stuff live just as long as the ones on the expensive brands. idk, I feel I should give him the best that I can while he is young and growing so I feed the Precise Holistic Large/Giant Breed formula as suggested by the Great Dane Lady. I also give him salmon oil, joint supplements and Nzymes which has probiotics and healthy stuff in it. It has helped my 15 yr. old arthritic Pit Bull Brandi immensely. I highly recommend it and so does the Great Dane Lady. I also have trouble registering on the Mastiff website but you can go in and see the recommended food list without registering if you want to.

Dear Lisa,

I'm always looking into feeding better- believing better nutrition will improve their health.  My vet also says something like that and believes in Purina and Hills and proclaims the value of all the research they do for animals.  My feeling is that they do research to make previously unused scraps of butchered animals into food that passes.  To make their products more profitable.  I don't consider trusting them- not even food processors for humans either- corrupt industry.  I would like to know the definitive best way to feed and I would follow it.  It is very confusing- with experts abounding.  I was getting into that the Great Dane Lady was saying until I saw she is selling something!  That always makes me suspicious, but, I can be wrong and will look into her stuff further.  I finally registered for the Mastiff site!

I totally agree. I don't think the Great Dane Lady sells Nzymes does she? She is very well read and very educated. She endorses only the products that she researches and tests. Today you don't know who to believe or trust for that matter.

I love the fact you all are having a nice discussion about diet, but could we please move it from the Introduction post.  There are plenty of on going discussions on such under Boerboel Diet  The reason for this is we want your thoughts, and the time you put into your discussion not to be wasted.  If a member is searching for discussions on diet they will not be looking in the Introduce Yourself post.  Not trying to be controlling but just trying to keep things organized so members can find what  they are looking for.  I hope you understand, thanks!

lol....sorry Marco ;)

No worries, I just like to try to keep things on topic helps people find things better.  I also don't like to see good discussions get missed because they are in the wrong place :)  I hope I did not upset anyone.

Sorry Marco, you are right.  I'm still learning my way around the site but everything you said makes absolute sense.  Is there any way to move the conversation to the appropriate discussion?

J

It's all good, it happens sometimes with all of us.  If you would like you can continue to talk over at Boerboel Diet.  Thanks for understanding.

Marco, thank you for providing this site that we are all enjoying- that is where the thanks should go, to you!

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting.  Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy.  First off have you taken her to the vet?  Do they know of the situation?  Have they taken a urine sample?  If your girl has a UTI…"

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
