What do you expect from your breeder? What would you like to see them do?

What do you expect from your breeder? What would you like to see them do? I think these two questions make for a great discussion. This will not only help future buyers when looking for a breeder, but also help breeders know what they can do to improve. You may also if you would like, mention why you chose the breeder you did. What was it about them that stood out among others out there? You may choose to answer one of these questions or all three. Whichever you do, we would love to hear from you.

Rosita I do agree a show dog should excell in both but unfortunately this is not the case with most.  Look at the GSD American bloodlines vs German lines.  The is seen among lots of other breeds out there so thats why it is important to know what you are getting.  We may not believe in it but does not mean its not there.
That's what i ment. Too much bonding to give him back... Wish my breeder thought the same way as you. But only seen it in a few breeders not to get the puppy back. And just send another for free. That would be great!!! but.. anyway
Savas sometimes breeders as another option will require you to have them fixed (Spay/neuter) before they will replace.  Check and make sure thats not an option for you.

Quite frankly, if I were to bring a sick dog back to me, it would just cost the resources that are earmarked foor the dogs that will make our breeding better. It is not very good for the dog either. The only reason I can think of for doing it would be to make it harder for people to get a replacement because everybody knows that you don´t just give up your dog. I know that we would never give up a dog we had bonded to, so we would not demand it of others either.

You said it, the way it is Shaun, took the words right out of my mouth
I would expect a breeder breeds for health and good temperament. With the boreboel breed a good breeder will educate the new owner and will stay in touch. I think people should talk for a while with the breeders before getting a puppy. Find out if you really work well with the breeder. If you do, you don't need a forum to ask your questions you can ask the breeder who will help you. That way your dog/pup will turn out just as good as the breeders dogs. Just my two cents.
Yes health and good temperament are key for sure.  I do think a breeder should should be available if needed after the purchase for questions, and support.  I have heard from people stories about not being able to contact their breeder afterwards which is horrible.  However we as owners should not rely on our breeders alone for everything.  A forum will allow people to find answers to questions that have already been asked a 1000 times over, not to mention other helpful information.  Not only that the forum on my breeders site allowed me to talk with others who had already purchased a dog from them.  This made me feel so much better going into it.  While I was waiting it was nice to stay in contact with others on there.  Most hosting sites for your website come with a free forum setup so its nothing that cost extra, and would be a huge advantage for them to have.  Also breeders may also create their own form here to use for their site by creating a group.  Then all they have to do is place a tab or link to it on their site.  A big reason why I created this site for others to share with one another.  Thanks to everyone who has added to this discussion.

I know this thread is old but I want to chime in...I think that what has bothered me the most is the lack of communication when interviewing certain breeders.  I hate having to make decisions and plans and feel like I have to beg for info.  I want to know what is going on...do what you say you are going to do.  Plain and simple.  Keep me informed and don't make me drag information from you.  This has happened with several breeders.  If I can't get through the interview process, I sure can bet I won't get anywhere if somethinggoes wrong.

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting.  Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy.  First off have you taken her to the vet?  Do they know of the situation?  Have they taken a urine sample?  If your girl has a UTI…"

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
