Is there any other option besides spaying?  We have been struggling with this issue for a year and are about to have our female spayed.  The whole thing in making me sick, but now we have a male (who is her brother) and we don't want puppies. Plus the mess in the house from the last time she went into heat was horrendous.

how old is your female honestly though i really do believe dogs that are pets should be desexed after they are 2 i hear ya my girl who is only 1.3 years old just had her first heat. this place has been turned upside down by it and its no fun for anyone least of all the female.

As for alternatives i have heard of oral birth control or getting tubes tied but i dont know anyone  who has done that i really wish there were more  choices out there.
