Can anyone suggest a good food for my 9 month old puppy. She is very particular. Seems to hate all the dry food we try to give her and she is very selective about canned food too.

We don't feed BARF, those premade patties are probably convenient, but very expensive. We feed the raw prey model diet. No grinding or mixing, no veggies or fruits. So simple, just raw meat with bone, some organ meat, salmon oil. I have no source for cheap meat, the best I can find is chicken leg quarters for .49 lb. Sometimes I'll get pork on sale. That's why I give TOTW kibble (grain-free, bison) several times a week because I can't give him enough variety in meat. It is very very easy, you don't have to cut anything up, the bigger the hunk of meat the better, and the dogs love crunching up the bones. The only thing my boy doesn't eat raw is liver. Most dogs love it, but I have to sautee' it briefly in butter for him, lol. If you want more info on the raw prey model diet, I'll put you in touch with the woman who advised me, she's great and will give you lots of help. She really is an expert on it, and her two have done beautifully since puppyhood.
Thank you for all your suggestions. I have not tried BARF, but I am going to look into it-seems a little expensive to buy-to make it yourself-you just give them raw meat and bones?
At the suggestion of another BB owner (who raised her two totally on raw) we switched to mostly raw feeding. Gage loves it!! She gave me lots of great advice. We feed raw chicken quarters, sometimes raw pork and liver, salmon oil, and then feed Taste of the Wild grain free several times a week. I'd do all raw but beef is too expensive here. Lots of advantages: mealtime gives him great chewing exercise, keeps his teeth sparkling, his stools are much smaller and disintegrate into a white powder. It's really simple, I just buy bags of chicken and toss it onto a plate for him. He's doing great on it. Her weight sounds fine, you really don't want a heavy puppy. I was shocked the first time I gave him raw chicken...it seemed disgusting and I couldn't imagine he would eat it! He gobbled it up.
I guess that brings up another question, how much should a female weigh at 9 months?
Great-thanks so much. She is 9 months old and just 101 pounds. Her sisters are 125 and brothers 140-150.
Hello Phyllis! Sorry to hear your having a ruff time with food. Do you know what type of food you want to feed mainly as far as dry, wet, or raw foods? B.A.R.F. is a great suggestion, you can make it yourself or buy it online. I am currently feeding my pup dry food and looking to start feeding raw soon. My favorite Kibble dog foods at this time are Blue Wilderness Salmon and Orijen Puppy Large Breed. Here's a great place to read up on kibble reviews and a nice raw feeding guide to look at. Just a few thoughts from me, there are plenty of people here that may be able to help as well. I wish you the best on finding what works best for you and your pup!
