Hello all!
New to the forum, and new to Boerboels. I simply fell in love with the breed when I laid my eyes on them. Did some research and reading on them and I decided that is the dog I want to add to my family!

Anyways, I have purchased a puppy through Estes Boerboels in Georgia. Anyone have any experience with the breeder? He seems like a pretty knowledgeable/good guy.

I know this has been covered, but any advice for a new owner? The puppy is set to arrive later next week. I am looking for any advice I can get. I.e. food, etc. I have had large breed dogs before.

Hey Kenny Welcome, Glad to hear you have had big breeds before. BB'a need time and energy burn, socialization and love steady hand not hard and heavy. Get quality food, no grains corn or soy, a lot of people here do feed raw, so get in where you fit in. lol Good luck to you and your new pup. As for your breeder I have not heard of them not that means anything. I'm sure someone hear my know them. Join new puppy group here and if you don't have a good grasp on training get a good trainer, preferabally who has worked with large breeds before. FYI pet smart puppy class is not training. Thanks for the reply! It works out perfect, because I go on vacation for a month in a couple of weeks, so I will have about a month to spend with him. Any advice out there for brand of dog food? I hear Eukanuba is pretty good. I am aware of the PetSmart puppy class, and I agree, that's not training. It would be beneficial from a socialization aspect. But that's about it...Getting excited!

Hi Kenny, expose him to as much as you could early on, walk him in crowded areas, with lots of different noises. soon as he gets his shots get him around somw stable dogs and pups, it will go a long way in his development. take care and good luck with your new pup, where are you located in Il, I live on the southwest suburbs.

Hello Kenny, congrats on soon becoming a new boerboel owner!  If you have not already taken the time to, read over some of the posts by following these links.  The last link is a review site on dog food which can help you choose a better quality kibble.  I feed raw, as many do hear but did not start doing so untill the last 6 months or so I think.  If we can help with anything let us know.  Good luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks Marco! I have not ruled out feeding raw, but I think I'm going to start off with kibble. Good quality of course. I will look through the links, thanks.

I have a quick question regarding color. Do the colors in their coat get lighter or darker as time goes by? It seems I've seen a lot of pictures of Boel puppies that look real light, but their adult pictures it seems as though they are a darker yellow, some even with a hint of red.
