Home Of The Rare Breed.
I am in the process of purchasing a puppy from Jeff Rey Buenviaje of JK Boerboels. Is anyone familiar with him? The parents are Greatlakes Quattro(Maxx) SABT 88.3 X Copperhead
Samantha SABT 86...Has anyone worked with him before?

Hi, what's the reason you went with this breeder?
No matter what you end up doing, make sure the parents are health tested for common health issues within the breed. Also ask the breeder why they chose to mate these two dogs, and what they expect the puppies to be like. Where are the puppies being raised while with the breeder (if you feel this is important to you) ? Is it the type of BB you would like (as some are more big and mastiff like, and others are smaller types)?
If possible, speak to others that have bought puppies from this breeder, are they happy? Has the breeder been helpful if they had problems with their dog?
We all expect different things from the breeder though, so make sure you find one that's right for you :) .
I think there's a thread somewhere too with "what do you expect from your breeder", if you look around for it. Might be helpful.
Nidhia,
I do not know the breeder you are working with. I have seen several Copperhead dogs and they are usually nice looking dogs. I own a Great Lakes female and she is outstanding. I am not suggesting this makes these pups what you want, but the breeder seems to have selected good BB kennels for his dogs. I would find out if they have hip and elbow conformations as breedable. Boerboels have several genetic problems that can arise. If you are buying this pup as a breed quality pup, find out about a guarentee and get as much info as possible about the over-all health of the parents. Even when you buy from good breeders and quality parents, sometimes things go wrong. Good luck with your endevour.
Nidhia,
Although their appraisal scores are good this does not necessarily mean that their health is good. Make sure you ask about hip and elbow health tests and ask to see them. Do they do temperament testing and how are their dogs around people and other dogs? Do they work their dogs or are they just couch potatoes? There are so many different types of BB's out there. Many have the good looks and muscle mass but can't walk around the block. This was the case with my first BB. My second is from working lines and isn't much of a looker but can run and jump all day long. I much prefer the second. He has a solid temperament as well where my first one has many fears which eventually developed into aggression with people and other dogs. Just do your homework before you bring that pup home. Good luck!

Also another thing to consider is that there are also variations within a litter of pups. Best be very sure of the kind of temperament that suits your needs. Then make sure you inform the breeder of this. If they know what they are doing and know their lines, they will be able to find you a pup that meets your requirements.
Thank you all so much!! I saw both the parents and the puppies over face time and spent a lot of time researching the lineage...He provided me with the elbow and hip information of the parents as well as a DNA profile. He was absolutely fabulous to work with and loves his dogs. I couldn't resist my puppy's face either! I bought him and he is now home with me! I have named him Prince...
Conratulations on the new pup. I hope she is just what you wanted. Its so fun to have a little Boerboel around...
If you need any info or help this site has many willing to share their knowledge.
Thats great news, congrats on your pup! Be sure to check out the New Boerboel Owners Group for helpful info. Keep us updated, and good luck.
Congratulations on your new pup! I hope you have a wonderful, successful journey! @Lisa- I'm insulted! Not a looker!
Jay, haha.....he is getting handsomer by the day! He was kind of an ugly duckling for a while but he is turning into a real stud now. He's filling out nicely. How much does Nike weigh? I'm wondering what he will end up at.
My Bella was 120 lbs. Axel is around there now. I have to find a place to weigh him to be sure. I'm thinking he'll put on another 20 lbs. at least. He is really filling out now. Every day I notice him a little bit bigger. His temperament is the best part about him. He is doing so great with his obedience and has not shown the least bit of aggression with other dogs. I am so happy with him!
