Home Of The Rare Breed.
Long delayed project for conversion of the garage space into kennel finally started.
With may design questions being answered one still is open.
Floor covering!
Raised floor with insulation under covered with non-sleeper ceramic tiles.
Now I am looking for the top layer

Hey Leon, if in garage. Now that I think about it. I would remove garage door close up wall and install door. insulate walls and put shark bite texture waterproofer on concrete floor and add electric baseboard heat oil filled radiators more energy savings fast install. Good luck let me know what you think about it. Peace Lee
Marco I just used part of the garage to create indorr heated/cooled place to sleep, eat, rest. I will add outdoor 30x 10 two runs
Hi Leon,
When we lived up north ( and get into our new country house ) we had two full bays converted into a kennel area. What we did to heat the area first of all was the following; overtop of the concrete already there we layed the tubing for infloor heating and then poured concrete over top. We finished the surface with a diamond hard garage floor finish ( sorry cannot remember the name ) and then for the flooring, we used this type of insulating rubber ( bought through my husband's company ) that was about 4 inches in thickness and held body heat very well. So considering that we had infloor heating AND this specialized rubber matting.. they were all toasty warm throughout the coldest of Northern Ontario Winters. Cleaning wise; that was wonderfully easy... we picked up the rubber mat's and hosed them off outside.
Another thought is something that I saw Fuller boerboels use was for an outside run, they actually used deck boxes and took only one door off so that the dog could go into it from the cold and it was raised off the ground, easy to clean... we are going to be investing in something similar when ready.
Hope that helps :)
Marcella
Thank you Marcella.
Elephant bark is specially desing as soft rubber cover. Similar to what you described.
I requested sample and should have it by end of this week.
I wil try with my girls if they will like the mat itself.
Will post pictures.
Thanks for the information Marcella. Leon good luck with your project, and keep us updated on how everything is going. Looking forward to photos of the finished project.
Hi Leon, The rubberfloor is ok BUT! we have put it also in our kennel, pay a lot of money and whats happend?
As you know dogs likes to make round before they sleep, also they likes to scratch the floor before they sleep.
What means that maybe your new floor gone stay for one months because the domages the dogs like to make:-)
We did it an d spend a lot of money , so maybe better make a choise for a wooden floor!
Also for the beds, we have spend a lot of money and our conclution is better go somewhere by a garage for trucks or bus , they have a lot of ussed big rubber tires for free. put a tick rubberfloor on from 1m2? I dont know in inshes? maybe 3.24 feet. This is high bed, strong and cheap :-)
hope you can use this idea?
Mario.
Thanks for an idea.
You put large tire and cover it with something?
