MY BOY BARON DROOLS NOT A WHOLE LOT BUT I'VE NOTICED THAT MY FEMALE MILEY DOESN'T DROOL (NOT THAT I WANT HER TO DROOL-LOL).  I AM JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHY.  IS THIS NORMAL.  WHEN SHE WAS SIX MONTHS OLD SHE WAS FIXED.  DOES THAT BEAR ANY WEIGHT ON THE DROOLING ISSUE OR SIMPLY FEMALE BOERBOELS DON'T DROOL.  WOULD LOVE FEEDBACK.  THANKS AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

hi jeanette

i think drooling has more to do with the jowls the males are more likely to do it because there lips are not as tight though my female drools alot

Hello Jeannette!  My Male boerboel only seems to drool some after eating, and drinking.  I thinks it has a lot to do with the structure of their mouths as Ashley mentioned.  At times he can get it all over the place on him and myself :)
Thanks, Baron does tend to drool alot when he eats his food and snacks.  I look at him and wipe his drool off as I talk to him telling him "Mama is going to clean you up and keep you handsome!"  He kind of smiles and loves that interaction.

Thanks, I guess then its the jowls.  I look at them both lovingly and drool or no drool "Mama loves you dearly!"  These boerboels are so sensitive that even when I talk to them, they listen to me and shake they their heads as if they really understand me!

Hi, drooling for me is how stable they are, but a lot will disagree with me.  I have adopted a 3year male about 6mth ago - he was unstable  very much insecure - he drooled like a tap that was opened! And with in the first week he fitted into our family and stopped drooling! And he was a hand full to pull straight!!

My 1year also drools - but only when he is existed or stressed!

Does he wait for his food - with out any excitement!

For me its all in the stability of the pack!

Chantell is right to a point with this dog who drool excessively can mean the animal is uncomfortable with something but not always it also depends on the dog

Ashley

I think drooling is definitely due to jowls.  I have two males and the one with tighter lips only drools when he is salivating for his food.  The other with the looser jowls, drools when salivating, after eating/drinking, and randomly!!

Hi, my male drools like a tap and its unreal how just one small treat can do it, he also drools a bit in the warm weather, especially if he runs around. I have to wipe his mouth before he comes inside so have towels inside, outside and in the car. He does have loose jowls.

My boy Maximus and he doesnt drool and look at his mouth.Drool is to do with excitment, stress.
Max the boy we adopted - and he drooled like tap that couldnt go close! And know we have no drool...

Hi there,

I have 3 boerboel bitches.  Each of them drool but 1 more than the other two.  Lunar has looser jowels than the other two and she drools all the time BUT she is an exciteable / high energy bitch and I think this is also a contributory factor.  Mona's lips are very tight but when she is excited about food or treats she drools more than the other two.  Sahara's mouth is close to perfect for me her jowels are not too tight and not too loose either and she drools moderately and only when she is waiting for her food but not when she is stressed or excited.

Personally I feel it varies from dog to dog.  Some just tend to drool more than others!

My girl doesn't drool a whole lot -- except when the anticipation of food is high.  Then she's practically blowing bubbles :-)

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting.  Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy.  First off have you taken her to the vet?  Do they know of the situation?  Have they taken a urine sample?  If your girl has a UTI…"

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
