Boerboel Puppy Skin Condition?

Looking for help/comments on my pup's skin...

I have a 5 and a half month old female pup. She weighed 90lbs at 24 weeks. I'm feeding her Taste of the Wild Puppy food with added raw ground turkey and beef on occasion. She has no human or other food othger than what I mentioned above. Just lately, I've noticed numerous bumps on her skin, primarily on her back, which appear almost like a form of acne. In some areas, each raised bump of skin loses hair as a well, causing some small patches of skin to show through her coat.

Is this part of the development process for Boerboels? Does their coat regenerate? I don't have any reason to suspect allergies and her vet does not appear concerned, though she does not have an explanation for the skin condition. Someone suggested some form of folliculitis (sp?) related to her coat maturing.

If anyone reading this has had any similar experience with their pup and can shed any light I'd be very grateful! Picture below....

Hi Mike it kinda looks like a allergic reaction to something, grass, poison ivy, shampoo your using, Turkey , who knows. I think your vet may not be concerned as it's not much or all over. Keep an eye on it if it gets worse, You can use Organic apple cider vinegar on a warm water soaked towel and wipe her down. once a day. ACV is great stuff and works on minor allergic problems. Our Chevy has something just like that.  He also gets bumps under his chin and in the folds of skin around his mouth. Our vet says it is puppy acne and many mastiff breeds suffer from it.  He has seen a lot of it.  In fact the first time we took him in for a visit he told us to watch out for it.  It comes and goes.  It seems to bother us more than him.  On 2 occasions it did get a little out of hand but a course of antibiotics knocked it right out.  Apparently they grow out of it.  We wash his chin with a hexadene flush often however as he likes to lay in all kinds of muck and filth and it could get infected.  Can't get him to lay in a clean pool of water though!

NP Mike, good luck and keep a eye out. Matt try the organic ACV, I like as close to nature as possible, and hexadene does really dry out the skin. years ago when they branded it for ear use I had nothing but problems with it. Him laying all over LOL and rolling is the BB way ha ha ha. Good luck guys have fun.

Hi Mike, my boy Chester had a very similar thing when he was about that age, maybe a bit older, same place on his back, under his limbs, on his front legs, I did a lot of research and it ended up being an allergy to wheat product that was in his kibble, I changed his diet to a total natural raw one, no kibble or wheat, corn products, also some of the protein in some kibbles is very poor quality. I fed him chickem/roo mince, eggd, organic yogurt, fidh oil, rice bran, chicken necks and it went away, he is now 3 1/2 and has no problems at all, the vet totally agreed with me as to the cause. I have only recently put him back on a kibble food but its holistic with rice and lamb, no wheat products, all human grade ingredients, its Australian and called Black Hawk holistic, expensive $100 for 20kg but worth it, I have had no problems with it at all, he also gets beef mince every night plus extras, hope this helps.

Thanks Saskia! Got her to the vet today and we are now treating the folliculitis she has that is apprently causing the hair loss. Once that's under control we'll figure out what the underlying cause is, be it food or other.

Good luck Mike, on the subject Chester also had a chronic case of dermatitis under is jaw, he used to rub it his face on the rough out door mat till it bled, he had big scabs there and it must have been very itchy, its a bacteria from the area being damp from drool and the skin fold, a few trips to the vet, lots of money on steroids, antibiotics, creams, they worked while he was taken them but the problem was back as soon as the course was finished, then this new product came out here, natural, no nasties, its called McArthur Complete Skincare Cream, made from pawpaws, its for people but it promotes blood circulation and healing for all types of skin conditions, so ordered some online and within a week I saw a big improvement, 3 weeks later and its gone after my poor boy suffered for over a year!, It hasnt come back but I still put it onnow and then, he absolutely loves it always wants to lick my hands. he sells on line but I dont know if he sells overseas yet as he cant keep up with domestic orders. I also use it on my dermitis with great results.
