Man critical after Boerboel mauls him

Johannesburg - A 48-year-old man was critically injured when a Boerboel attacked him in Uitenhage on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

"He underwent emergency surgery at 16:00 but is still in a critical condition in hospital," Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.

The man, who lives in a flatlet in his nephew's home, was in the garden at 10:30 when the dog mauled him.

"It bit (off) chunks of his upper arm and face," she said.

A neighbour who heard the screams hit the dog until it left the man. The animal was later put down.

Chantell, very good point, I would have to say without knowing the all facts, 9 out 10 times it is the owners fault, Wanting a agressive dog without understanding control, respect and proper pack order. These dogs must be socialized on property and off. They are after all from guard dog stock with exceptional strength and speed. You must know your dog period. The other 10% the dog may be ill, (mentally) sick hurt in some way or abused. Or simply a fear bitter gone bad, But this and most behavior shoud have been seen long before this tragic accident.
