Home Of The Rare Breed.
Nero spent the weekend in hospital after he likely ate something that didn't agree with some lymph nodes around his stomach. There was a huge lump in his tummy, he had a high temperature and hit colour was rater off. Initially we thought it was an obstruction, but the x-rays showed nothing and he didn't vomit, so we decided to treat conservatively wait and see.
So of course they put him on this extremely expensive scientifically formulated gastrointestinal stuff, which, when mixed with water as directed, turns into the most awful gunk. His problem was resolved by Monday morning. When I collected him yesterday afternoon I got the rest of the pack with strict instructions to finish it.
The result is rather telling. The ration for his age and weight is less than a quarter of his daily meat ration, yet it makes him look bloated. In spite of looking bloated, he is ravenous! And here comes the punchline: the wet stools are about four times as copious as the nicely compact meat ones!
So I ask myself... how much of that terribly expensive stuff (that no dog would eat if it was lying about in its uncoagulated, unflavoured raw form) actually stays behind to provide the nutrition a four-month-old needs? Couldn't I just give him a vitamin pill or two to get the same effect?
I'll stick to the meat, thank you very much.
