even if you use other means of ridding rats, sometimes others can endanger your pets. When younger, neighbors let our dog in to pet it and forgot they had anticoagulants out- luckily they took the dog in to a vet.
A couple of years back I had a male cat who got into the new poisons. There's two main types. I think here they are using one that builds up calcium in the bloodstream the most. An ingrediant used in bottling sodas works to leech the calciun out.
In a pinch I gave the cat vinegar [which leeches but not as well], and that worked; a vet would be better of course.
One thing I wanted to point out is these new rat poisens have this "build up" property.
You must keep the treated animal up for at least a week. In case.
All they have to do is get a tiny amount of the same poisen in a rat (or cat or dog) within the same week to totally overwhelm it; better if they'd left the old poisen as you can see signs of it and had a window of time before convulsions to reach the clinic or use atropine.
We are in an area of high population of feral kitties...not everyone likes them as much as we do.
