Hi, I am purchasing my Boerboel this Saturday. Any suggestions on our first few days with her, her name will be Koda.

Sandi,

I don't know how experienced you are with Boerboels or other large breed dogs so I will just say this. What is cute at 15 pounds isn't cute at 115 lbs. If it isn't going to be ok at 115 lbs don't allow it at 15 lbs. Your puppy will understand and expect changes in it's new home...Don't muddy the water with "new puppy" excitedness and allow it to do things that you will later not.

Good luck with your new pup.

Sherri
In all honesty, this is true for any breed. My dogs are all trained to schedules and know their places for eating, sleeping, as well as what they can and can not do. I have riles and our boerboel, for instance, just like my other dogs is not allowed on furniture....period. I researched the breed the best I could before purchasing her and my daughter has had first hand experience with her boyfriend's boerboel. She was the one that turned me on to the breed. I have had moments of uncertainty, prior to getting her, but she is such a sweetheart and getting better every day. Also, I spoke with my vet and felt much better due to our discussion as well. I hope that Koda will prove to be what I know she can be and not what so many of you on this forum say they are. I believe it is each dog for themselves and have decided lot form my own opinion while raising Koda. She has never shown any type of aggression, the biting has been due to being a puppy, biting our clothes, as well as playing a little rough with my small dogs, all males. They seemed to have, for the most part, worked this out, with our help! We will see how it goes. My biggest concern is that I work outside the home and can not be with her throughout the day; Howe dr, my daughter has a more flexible schedule while in college and work, so we arecworking it out, daily. We are a team, working to socialize and train her.
Hey Sandi, Congrats on your BB pup. Hope all is going well for you. Yes BB are like most dogs or even kids, they will do what you allow them to do. They do read people well, even you and your family, BB's are smarter then most and will try you. Training is key, along with attitude from you. Trained well they will be your best friendand dog ever. Good Luck Always be pack leader. As you run your family you should run your dogs. they must respect you. Lack of training is the root of most problems. It's much easier to train young. Congrats again. Be well and Strong. Peace

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting.  Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy.  First off have you taken her to the vet?  Do they know of the situation?  Have they taken a urine sample?  If your girl has a UTI…"

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
