Has anyone else every picked up pup at DFW from South Africa

I just got Email from Lukus saying he is shipping my puppy Monday so she will be arriving at DFW on Tuesday.  I have shipped and received several Lab pups so just wondering will there be anything different with this pup coming from South Africa?  I have read different stories on different airports so I was just wondering if anyone had experience with DFW?  What documentation will I need?  Will I have any dealings with Customs?  From those of you that have picked up a pup from over seas how long do the "hold" the pup before letting the owner pick it up?  Just trying to be sure I have all my bases covered before I get there.  She will be coming in on Delta flight.

Hello Kim!!

 

Its all most time, and Im so excited for you!! I picked Kenzo up at Delta's shipping docks, and as soon as he arrived I was able to take him home.  I brought some extra cash along in case I needed to pay any extra charges.  I honestly can't remember if I had to or not, If I did it was around $40.00 or so.  I signed a paper and then we were off to the vet to have him looked over.  I also called Delta the day of and they put me through to the receiving area.  I talked to the lady who was in charge and asked her all the questions I had.  She was very nice and excited to see Kenzo as well.  She mentioned she had seen a lot of dogs come through but none yet from SA.  Everything went smoothly other than my stomach was upset from being nervous.  The artcal Ashley posted is very helpful, so take a look at it when you can.  While I was waiting on Kenzo, there were others here waiting for pups as well.  We had a great time a few days before and after here in chat, everyone was so excited and helpful. Please if you are able to take pictures or a video while your there.  I would love to see them, and they are nice to have to look back on later.  Keep us posted!

Yes...mine is supposed to be leaving SA on the same day arriving Tuesday.  This is my first Boerboel and first time shipping a puppy in. I wonder how big that crate is if it'll fit in a Toyota 4Runner with the back seat down (he is 14 weeks).  Otherwise I have to use my pickup.

Hey I have been trying to respond from my Iphone if they all show up sorry about the repeats.  I did speak to Delta about my pup today.  She has been in Atlanta since early this morning, I don't understand the long delay from landing in Atlanta and flying out to Dallas but as long as she is taken care of.  I did ask if the pups were let out and all that or are they going to be confined to the crate the entire time.  They "assured" me they are in what is call the "pet room" and are allowed out and taken care of by folks that know pets.  Well I guess I can sleep if I at least attempt to believe that haha.  So glad she has your pup there with her R. Lee.  That has got to provide some what of comfort to each of them.  The man at Delta told me it would be nearly 4 hours from the time her plane lands until I could actually get her....  I think that is a bunch of hog wash!!  Marco didn't you say it was just a matter of minutes before you could get yours??  OOOOHHH these airlines!!  She lands at 9:00AM and I plan to be there by 9:30 guess I will just wait if it takes that long.  Dallas traffic it may be closer to 10:00 if I get stuck in traffic its a three hour drive for me. I will post pictures ASAP.  Anyone other than R Lee and myself getting a pup tomorrow?

I know what you guys are feeling right now, its a hard wait for sure. I was able to take Kenzo as soon as he arrived but things may be different there. Ed Baggett was also waiting on a pup. I wish you all the best, and look forward to seeing pictures soon!

Roland - We're expecting our puppy here in Austin on Thursday.  Do you have any advice? I know you went through this a couple years ago.  However, any insight would be welcomed.  Also, can you recommend a good trainer in the North Austin area?
