Home Of The Rare Breed.
Hello, I have 6 month old brindle girl. She is about 90lbs know. Around 4 month of age her bilateral elbows became inflamed, still are, I learned that Boerboels develops slowly in bones and organs, when they grow very fast, I don't want her to end up with the surgery, I'm doing everything possible, good supplement, less activity but it's not getting better. Also she is itching all the time, breeder says that it's normal for 1st year, because she is in different environment not where she was born. I do not understand, she spent 2 month in Texas where she was born and now 4 month in PA where she lives with us. Can anybody help me with my problems?

Hi Maria,
Congradulations on your girl! On the two issues you describe what does your vet say? Is she having problems moving around? Did her parents have good elbow scores?
I have never heard of it being normal to have severe allergies the first year. We imported our boy from South Africa and since coming here he has had no chronic allergies.
Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your response. Her parents has no problems, the vet saying as well as breeder to wait, but no one knows how long. She does not have severe allergies just some itching.
Maria, who are the parents of this dog? I see she is Brindle. Did she come from Mt. Olympus Boerboels?
Hi Lisa, yes she came from them, parents are Cerebrus Black one and Rhea brindle female, he registered my puppy wrong she was born 12/29/11 and they had a litter one week prior so when I got the certificate from AKC it had wrong birthday, when I called they said that 12/22 was registered with same mother which does not make any sense.
My Bella's birthday was wrong too. I know the day she was born because they posted it on their website that Rhea was welping and then when I got her they had a weeks difference. Very shoody paper work as well as other things. I heard that they screw around with parents and dates etc. I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. Our dog's grandfather Chaos has HD you know. I heard that from a reputable source. How is your dog doing health wise?
She has 2 elbows problem anconeal process, still waiting and looking in all means to save her from surgery, skin allergy, I think she does not agree with honey but they keep insisting that I have to use it all her life, the supplement needs to be mixed with olive oil and honey, I was trying to keep up with same brand, but I think to try something else to see if she is going to be fine with that. Few bladder infections, and mild ear infection. I just learned from other member who has their puppy that he is not pleased as well and found some staff about them, I'm very upset because not only I'm very trusting person, I love my girl and want to make sure she is well
My girl from Mount Olympus had a urinary track infection and mange which is a sign that the immune system isn't working the way it should. She also had rashes on her tummy and smelly yeasty ears. Her eyes were always runny too. I feel for you. My girl injured her rear leg (luxated patella) at about 10 months old. They discouraged me from taking her to the doctor and instead told me to take her to a acupuncturist and to double up on the joint supplement K9 Acti-Flex. Does this sound familiar? She unfortunately died at 2 1/2 years old from an auto immune disease which devastated us and bankrupted us at the same time.
I would stay away from the honey personally. My pup seems to have a shell fish allergy and have not found a supplement that agrees with him. i would take her off the supplements for a lil while and just see how she feels. It wont hurt to not have them for a few weeks in my opinion.
Lisa, I'm so sorry. I'm looking into different options and always taking Bagira to her vet with every little thing, but unfortunately it does sounds about right, I was never been told not to check her with the vet, all bladder infections I treated right the way, just last week I treated her ear, I probably stop the honey and try something else for her elbows

I can amagine how you fell and I'm sorry for your pain, I'm in the medical feild and know that miricals do or do not happen, but it's a little rough to say that you think it will not happen. My dog is fine emotionally and she does not have behavior problems, I was talking to other members who have problems with their dogs from same breeder. Do you want to team up and see what can be done, so not only us but other people will not suffer in the future.
