Home Of The Rare Breed.
Hi everyone, great to be part of this group. My Boerboel Shakira will be 6 months this month. We got her at 8 weeks old and she had no skin problems, but at about 3 months she started with a rash under her collar, which we thought maybe the collar has gotten wet. When we went to the vet for her inoculations she was scratching terribly and we were given antibotics and she was on quarterzone for a while. This did help for a while but as soon as they were finished she started up again, actually worse, her skin looks like she has hives or pimples all over her body. Thank heavens she does not scratch as much anymore but when I brush her with the flea comb, lots of scabs come off her skin. I was feeding her Eukaniba food and I have changed to Royal Canine but the problem is still there. Has anybody had any similar problems?

Hello Janice welcome to the site! Most skin issues nowadays are unfortunately brought on by the food we feed our dogs. I would suggest taking a good look over our Diet info page here on the site. Changing the diet is one of the first steps to look at when trying to find the problem, and you then move on from there. I hope you are able to find a solution soon. A couple things to also look at below.

have you tried washing her in an anti-fungal antibacterial shampoo?
I had similar problems, along the same age timeline. I switched to the raw diet and began giving weekly baths with a shampoo designed for dogs with allergies. The problem went away and has not returned even though i stoped the baths 5 weeks ago.
feed raw and it should go away. i wash my dog once twice a year with a really natural shampoo. hes almost 3 now and his skin has been bump free ever since.
