Home Of The Rare Breed.
For a few days now my 9 month old has decided his not that hungry in the morning, we feed raw, what he does is take his food, usually a carcass, out of his bowl and lay it on the garden and rest near it. He doesn't want anyone to take it from him but refuses to eat it. After a little coaxing his might eat 1 or 2 carcasses. He only seems interested in his evening meal which he eats straight away again "raw". At 9 months he has hit close to 80kgs which is around 170lbs, which means he has done the majority of his growth, we think he doesn't need as much food as he shows no signs of lethargy, is very playful and is generally the same dog that used to eat all his meals!
Have any of you guys experienced this with your boerboels at this age. He has been on 3 meals since his was a puppy, we have not switched him to 2 meals yet but it seems he is forcing it on us...

After 6 months old you can feed 2 x a day. That is unusually large for him at 9 months old. Are you overfeeding him? His large size could cause hip, knee and elbow problems so be careful about him jumping and running too hard. I feed my boy (19 months) 2 x a day 2-3 pounds of meat and bones. He is about 100 pounds. He is on the smaller size as he comes from working lines. I think he's telling you enough already! lol....
I am pretty sure we are not over feeding him. His just got large bone structure, I can see his last 2 ribs. Ye I think his had enough too! Yesterday for the first time we fed him once in a day and he was fine. We have reverted to twice a day and will also be feeding 2-3lbs of meet and bone from now ons. His grandad weighs around 190lbs and his dad is coming up to the same weight, so again I don't think he is overweight. I am currently at work, and will post some pictures of him once I get back home.

What i did when my dog start to waste food is to reduce her meal to twice a day (Morning and Night) and also once in 2-3weeks is no food through out the day. And she has been doing well.
