Hello people, just wondering if anyone can answer a question for me?

My little girl is 5 months now and she has started to growl at people at night when we are out walking, we live in the city and during the day she is fine and spends at least 2-3 hours a day with 10-20 large breed dogs at our local dog park across the street with zero problems.

She has a great temperment and has only snapped once at someone who scared her when they tried to grab her face cause she is a cute boerboel puppy, other than that no real problem other than the growling and barking she does to people when we walk at night.

Is this a normal behaviour for the breed to be suspicious of certain types of people? it seems to be mostly with people in hats or have hoodies on or are acting strange, which is normal in Vancouver at night.

Just wondering if it's a problem or am I just being paranoid, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Josh

My Bella was from a stud imported from Africa as a pup Afrika Mars and the mom is Mt. Olympus Rhea if your interested in checking out my dog's line. She is quite aggressive to strangers that I invite into my house. I have to tether her and give her corrections with the e-collar. She has gotten better on walks now that she is going to be 2 years old next month but she has jumped some of my guests and now I take no chances with her.

Johan I'm very sorry to hear that. May his memories bring you great joy. I hope the best for your new pup!
Johan may I ask the breed of the aggressive BB IN SOUTH AFRICA PLEASE

Mr Flybynite (LOL)

I can unfortunately not put my personal perceptions on a public website as it is,and should stay, my personal opinion. I believe that temperament is a genetically transferable trait but that environment plays just as big a role as genetics.

Kind regards

Johan

It is very important to to breed sound temperament in breeds like the BB, as well as all guardian and Mollosser breeds. Their temperament needs to be layed back, very confident from early age on. You  dont want a bully, or an overly dominant puppy as well as a puppy that is shy towards meeting people or new situations. These are signs to watch, when selecting a puppy. Temperament good or bad is heredetary, so observe the parents of the puppies as well. If puppies as described above fall into the hands of inexperienced people, they can be a problem waiting to happen.
How do you feel when you are out walking at night? Is it possible she is picking up a little fear from you when people cross your path at night?

"Hello Kim welcome and thanks for posting.  Sorry to hear you having trouble with your puppy.  First off have you taken her to the vet?  Do they know of the situation?  Have they taken a urine sample?  If your girl has a UTI…"

obsessive Water drinking

Our 12 week old Boerboel wants to drink water - she has had a urinary infection that we have been treating.. but this is crazy... she searches for mud puddles, rain, condensation... drinks until she is miserable and burping then lays around and pees... potty training is near impossible as she is more interested in water than life... ANY IDEAS? See More
